Barnesville Hospital Employee Wellness Program “2013 5K Training Club”

Have you ever wanted to run or walk a 5K, but just didnt know if you could make it or what it would be like Well, now is the time to try it. The Barnesville Hospital Employee Wellness Program is again coordinating its third annual 5K Training Club during the months of August and September 2013. Participants will have the opportunity to train over this eight week period by running and/or walking with others that are interested in seeing if they can get strong enough and conditioned enough to finish a 5K. There will be weekly organized group runs/walks during these two months and there will also be an eight week training schedule for everyone to follow as a group or on their own.

On September 28, 2013 the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival will be holding its annual 5K race and this will be the goal of our 2013 5K Training Club. Participants of this club have the opportunity to pre-register for the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival 5K. If you are a participant in this club, you can pay a discounted fee of $18.00 to pre-register and make the commitment to run or walk this race.

The 2013 5K Training Club is open to all employees of Barnesville Hospital and their friends and family members. This is a great way to get in shape, learn some tips on running or walking races, and have fun with your fellow employees. The training will begin Thursday, August 1, 2013 and will end on race day, September 28, 2013. If you are interested in participating, pick up a training schedule and a consent form either at the wellness bulletin board or in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, 425-5187, fill out the consent form and return it to Rocky McGee. The earlier you start training the better, but you can join this club anytime before September 2, 2013.

The training schedule is a calendar that lists the dates and times we will be meeting and the recommended distances you will need to run/walk to prepare for the 5K. Try to run as much of the recommended time as possible, but also feel free to walk any time you need to catch your wind or recover. Please remember this is a beginners training schedule and is only a guide to help you start your training for the 5K. If you cannot join everyone else at the allotted time, you can complete the designated workouts on your own schedule. Make sure you have a good pair of running or walking shoes and always bring a water bottle to exercise.
