New Medical Records Coordinator Joins Staff at Barnesville Hospital

Jessie Carpenter, RHIT, recently joined the staff at Barnesville Hospital as Medical Records Coordinator. Jessie will be assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Medical Records Department, as well as assisting with the transition to ICD-10-CM coding.

Growing up in Salesville, Ohio with parents, Susan & Gary Haenisch and Paul & Cherrie Urdak, and siblings, Joe and Emily, Jessie graduated from Buckeye Trail High School. She is a graduate of Zane State College Health Information Management Program where she was class president and student representative chair for the HIM department. Prior to coming to Barnesville Hospital, Jessie was employed at Six County, Inc., a mental health facility.

When asked her motivation to get into healthcare, Jessie expresses, a desire to give back in a way that people can benefit, not only physically, but financially. According to Jessie, she wants to help people understand the reasons behind medical records and how they can be of benefit. She serves as a resource within her own family. With her mother and sister working as nurses, Jessie has shown them the other side of medical records so they have a complete picture of their purpose, both as a record of medical care, but also a valuable tool in dealing with health insurance.

Married to husband, Jerry, for five years, they live in Cumberland. Her most gratifying experience has been helping her in-laws understand Medicare and their options with drug costs. Jessie believes that, no matter what, everyone needs help in understanding the rules and regulations of Medicare. She feels the biggest challenge in todays healthcare climate is the inability for people to afford health insurance, either because small employers cant afford to provide or people cannot afford the premiums for a personal health insurance policy.

Jessie likes to crochet, read books written by Shelley Sheppard Gray, and is an avid Ohio State Buckeye supporter. She enjoys spending time with family, but says, In the fall, my Saturdays are filled with the sounds of Ohio State football!
