Bridging the Gap a six week exercise class designed specifically for cancer survivors will resume with another round of classes at Barnesville Hospital on Monday, June 15, 2015. This free class was made possible by funding through the American Cancer Society Virginia Gasaway Community Investment Grant.
Participants will attend the one hour class on Mondays at 4:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. for a total of 12 sessions. They will be instructed in exercises to strengthen and stretch target areas of their bodies to assist them to recover from the effects of cancer treatments and possible de-conditioning. Participants will likely increased their range of motion, improve their strength, and be educated on lifestyle changes to improve their overall health and fitness.
This six week class will begin Monday, June 15, 2015 and run for 12 sessions ending on Thursday, July 23, 2015. The instructors are Vicki Burghy, Physical Therapist, Judy Barrick, Occupational Therapist, and Raquel McGee, Exercise Physiologist, all employees at Barnesville Hospital. All instructors are certified Cancer Exercise Specialists, a certification they achieved through funding from the Virginia Gasaway Community Investment Grant.
