The Barnesville Hospital Employee Wellness Program is offering its sixth annual 5K Training Club. If you ever wanted to run or walk a 5K, but did not know how to go about it, now is the time to give it a try. Participants will have the opportunity to train over an eight week period beginning the first week of August by running and/or walking with others to develop the strength and conditioning to finish a 5K. The 5K Training Club wraps up on September 24, 2016 with members participating in the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival annual 5K race either as walkers or runners.
The 2016 5K Training Club is open to Barnesville Hospital employees and community members. Participants will meet a once a week for an organized group run/walk. In addition, a detailed training schedule will be provided for participants to follow on their own. Members will do a group workout each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and participants will also learn tips on running or walking races. Participants of this club will have the opportunity to pre-register at a discounted fee for the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival 5K.
Last year over forty people participated in the Training Club. This included many beginner runners and walkers, said Raquel McGee, Exercise Physiologist, Barnesville Hospital. Everyone is supportive of each other and it is a great way to get in shape and have fun. If you are interested I encourage you to sign up.
