Joseph Jeffries Nominated for OHA Health Care Worker of the Year

Barnesville Hospital has nominated Joseph Jeffries for the Ohio Hospital Association Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year. Over the past several years Joe has demonstrated vision, leadership and a willingness to collaborate with others to establish the Addiction Services of Eastern Ohio (ASEO). ASEO is an outpatient addiction treatment center located in the Barnesville Medical Center which offers withdrawal management, behavioral counseling and medication assisted treatment.

Joe has been employed by Barnesville Hospital since 2002 and is the Hospital’s Pharmacy Director. Launching an outpatient addiction clinic was not something Joe was asked to do or was part of his job description. Instead Joe saw a problem that was devastating families and our communities and he was motivated to be a part of the solution.

“Joe was moved by the opioid epidemic which is negatively impacting our area and he was determined to make a difference,” said David Phillips, CEO, Barnesville Hospital. “With unparalleled determination Joe inspired partners in the community to work together to make his vision of an outpatient drug treatment center a reality. Joe deserves much of the credit for ASEO being able to open its doors and to begin providing services to clients beginning in April, 2017.”

Joe’s passion, dedication, and commitment doesn’t stop at work. Joe is also actively involved in the community. From singing in his church choir to having coached recreational baseball, soccer and football, Joe is willing and eager to find ways to give back to his community. Other ways Joe has given back to the community include: coached high school golf, served on the Board of the Junior Sports Recreation League, Vocal Music booster, Church Deacon, served on the Board of Junior Sports, and a member of the Saints Club, St. Clairsville Schools.

The Ohio Hospital Association Health Care Worker of the Year Award honors the excellence of health care workers statewide and recognizes one outstanding individual who demonstrates leadership, routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty and reflects the mission and values of his or her organization, and gives back to the community. Each hospital in the state is permitted to nominate one individual. The winner of the OHA Health Care Worker of the Year will be announced in June at the OHA Recognition Dinner.
