Bridging the Gap a six week exercise class designed specifically for cancer survivors will hold a new series of classes at Barnesville Hospital beginning on Monday, August 19, 2013. This free class was made possible by funding through the American Cancer Society Virginia Gasaway Community Investment Grant.
Participants will attend the one hour class on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. for a total of 12 sessions. They will be instructed in exercises to strengthen and stretch target areas of their bodies to assist them to recover from the effects of cancer treatments and possible de-conditioning. Participants will likely increased their range of motion, improve their strength, and be educated on lifestyle changes to improve their overall health and fitness.
This six week class will begin August 19, 2013 and run for 12 sessions ending on Thursday, September 26, 2013. The instructors are Vicki Burghy, Physical Therapist, Barnesville Hospital, and Raquel McGee, Exercise Physiologist, Barnesville Hospital. Both instructors are certified Cancer Exercise Specialists, a certification they achieved through funding from the Virginia Gasaway Community Investment Grant.
