Central Blood Bank, the regions largest blood center, has signed an agreement with Barnesville Hospital to become the hospitals exclusive blood supplier. The agreement went into effect on July 1, 2013.

Central Blood Bank distributes 350,000 blood products annually, the majority of which are transfused at the approximately 40 local hospitals and healthcare facilities the blood center services.

Barnesville Hospital has a long-standing commitment to the residents of Barnesville and the surrounding areas in western Belmont County, Monroe, Guernsey, Noble, and Harrison counties. A medical staff of more than 56 physicians, representing 18 specialties, and more than 300 personnel provide 24-hour emergency services along with inpatient care, skilled care, and observation services. Barnesville Hospital is committed to the vision that the hospital will always be a progressive leader and a vital center of community health activities in Barnesville and throughout southeastern Ohio.

Our ability to provide quality health care to the communities we serve is predicated on having a stable blood supply, said David Phillips, CEO, Barnesville Hospital. Having been in business for more than 60 years, Central Blood Bank provides that stability. We believe this move is not only best for the hospital but, more importantly, it is best for the patients that we serve on a daily basis.

We are excited to supply products and our transfusion expertise in helping Barnesville Hospital care for its patients, said Michele Tysarczyk, Executive Director, Central Blood Bank. We also look forward to working with the hospital and engaging area businesses to provide blood and blood products to Central Blood Bank that will ultimately care for Barnesville patients.

Central Blood Bank collects the majority of its blood from approximately 200 monthly blood drives. The blood bank relies on area businesses and community organizations to maintain blood inventory for the hospitals it services.

It is important that the Barnesville community and people treated at Barnesville Hospital support Central Blood Bank blood drives, Shawn Meier, BSMT (ASCP), Laboratory Manager said. When people donate with Central Blood Bank they are supporting family, friends, colleagues and neighbors.

Barnesville Hospital will host a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, September 17th from 1:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 1-866-DONORS-1 (1-866-366-6771) or visit
