Barnesville Hospital Laboratory Awarded Accreditation

The Laboratory at Barnesville Hospital has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval by demonstrating compliance with the Joint Commission’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety. The laboratory underwent their bi-annual survey in October, 2017.  The survey process takes two full days with an inspector evaluating all aspects of the Laboratory as well as their involvement with other departments throughout the hospital.

Shawn Meier, Laboratory Manager, said, “We continually strive to improve the quality of our services and meeting the Joint Commission’s rigorous requirements is an important recognition that we have achieved that goal. It is critical that we provide accurate test results to the physicians so that they can diagnose and treat their patients.  It is a top priority of our laboratory, as well as the entire hospital, to provide the best possible care to our patients and our community.”

Dr. Nasir Khan, Laboratory Director, said that efforts to improve don’t stop when the Joint Commission survey is over. “Meeting standards and achieving excellence is a continuous process,” he said.  “No matter how well we did today, we want to do better tomorrow.”

From Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, COO, Accreditation and Certification Operations for Joint Commission: “Thank you for the opportunity to serve your organization. The mission of The Joint Commission is to continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. Our goal is to exceed your expectations in providing your organization with a comprehensive and inspirational evaluation.”

The Joint Commission’s hospital standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The standards are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help hospitals measure, assess and improve performance.
